Show WHY MOFFAT TUNNEL BILL FA FAILED from all accounts the proposition of issuing s bonds for the driving of three railroad tunnels through the continental divide in colorado failed of ratification at the hands of the voters in t the h e recent election it is extremely disappointing to many colora doans and utah people as well wel that the measure failed because of the great benefit that was expected to result from the completion of the moffat tunnel enterprise particularly the miner of Bo boulder filder colorado without mincing words explains the unfavorable action as follows the moffat tunnel bill failed to carry in spite of the fact fac t that there was an universal sentiment favoring the enterprise which people generally believed would have had the effect of cementing the entire state into a closely associated commonwealth the proposal was a good one but it was not made by the state nor was its construction construct i on and operation under the bill presented a public enterprise william G evans E vans and associates in drawing the bill named the commission to include himself and those associates and gave to it all powers in relation to construction and management they left not a thing to the state or the public in any relation except the liability toy for cost of construction and any further costs that might accrue under their management the terms of faith in mr the bill implied an unbounded evans and ana his colleagues and it was a stupendous assumption it appears from the returns we hope that eventually the tunnel may be built by the state for the state and not by the state for bill evans |
