Show ORE DRESSING investigations report for june 1919 department of metallurgical research of the university of utah in operation cooperation co with the salt lake city station of the U S bureau of mines during the month of june 1919 progress was made on the investigations being conducted by the department of metallurgical research of the university of utah in cooperation with the U S bureau of mines as f follows work was continued on volatilization and ore dressing investigations volatilization the large volatilization plant operated twenty one days during the month and the work was concentrated on representative ores from the park city and tintic gintic districts the results obtained have been fairly satisfactory especially as regards the lead investigations have also been started looking toward the possibilities of recovering the zinc before volatilization treatment small scale laboratory tests work was also continued on various ores throughout the state and considerable work was carried on on complex gold ores which indicated a possible extraction of 90 per cent of the gold oil no work was done on oil on account of the absence of mr gavin in the east ore dressing in operation cooperation co with a certain mining company five tons of molybdenum ore was treated by table concentration and flotation the results of which gave a very high grade concentrate and a high extraction of molybdenum tests were concluded on the quicksilver ores from california and several investigations were started on complex ores from various parts of the state potash about a ton of alunite from the marysvale Marys vale district southern utah was in the large rotary kiln and data taken regarding the material volatilized volatilize dand and subsequently precipitated in the cottrell the material to be treated by for the recovery of the potash content general dr L H deschak Do schak superintendent of the berkeley station and C W bouton chemist of that station spent about a week at the salt lake station in conference with mr varley mr moses and mr morgan on the chemistry chemistry of the volatilization process several phases of the process ss are to be studied at the berkeley station |
