Show PROSPECTS OF OIL SHALE mining editor snow of the salt lake herald has the following to say of the present outlook for the oil shale industry many utah men who were somewhat enthused with the possibilities and coming importance of oil shale and oil sand gand are at a loss to know just why the snap and dash which characterized the movement last year has almost disappeared even in colorado the movement has died down until today the matter of incorporating large companies the building of contemplated plants and the general development of some of the undoubted immense deposits of workable shale is seldom heard outside of a very limited circle it was proposed last year to have two or three large oil distilling plants building in the vicinity of watson utah long before this but at present no concrete information as to building plans is available colorado was alive with the first incipient oil shalo shale movement but even that energetic state is now saying little and probably doing less along these lines yet it is generally conceded that when the worlds great oil fields begin to run dry the practically unlimited oil bearing shale beds of utah colorado wyoming and nevada will be turned to meet this demand for gasoline and various valuable products byproducts by which these shale beds have sealed up in almost untold quantities some think the recent impetus given the oil business by the huge new wells of mexico and the remarkable new discoveries in texas have had a dampening effect upon the immediate shale business this would be quite natural and yet the statistician oil production until sees a gradually declining but a few years may elapse and other sources than the driven well must be looked for unless perhaps some substitute be discovered in the interim |
