Show new gold camp in 1 n nevada BY JAMES JAMBS F OBRIEN bringing with him first hand news of nevadas latest gold rush as well as specimens of the ore which furnish ocular evidence of the richness of the find charles kirchen has returned to reno after spending several days in the southern country during which time he joined the crowds that thronged thron ged to take a look at the new strike the ore samples that lie he brought with the yellow stuff that men and women have sold their souls for showing in profusion are of just the type that invariably cause a stampede and if the rich stuff holds out with depth and lateral development the new camp is due for a boom with all the usual trimmings there has not been enough work werk done up to this time to determine anything regarding the permanency of the find but rock lousy with free gold has never been cation started prospecting and soon uncovered the rich ore in excavating to a depth of a couple of feet and a length of four or five the discoverer allowed the rich ore to stand and it was a sight that beats murine for sore eyes that is a prospectors sore eyes gold in profusion glistened in the rock and it could be plainly seen for a considerable distance about this time trouble appeared as might be expected the men who had held the ground for years by location came forth and naturally objected to the newcomer grabbing off the rich ore just as naturally the discoverer objected to being aled out of all the gold that he alone had found it would appear that all parties interested were of unusually amiable dispositions there is some truth in this assertion there is evidence in this latest find not over yards from where this bonanza ore was found at the grass roots there is a shaft about feet deep less than yards away there is a tunnel run into the mountain for over a thousand feet in doing work at those and other points in the vicinity doubtless many good miners and prospectors had time and again walked over the spot which is now attracting so much attention while as intimated in the beginning it is too early as yet to make m ake predictions as to the permanency of this find the concen sus of opinion is that it is worthy of the development which it doubtless will get 7 A A ak sig A 4 f 74 N 49 ir P R AP M W ilk il k ot calr lake A nevada gold strike the kind that cause stampedes this open cut sold for found yet when men would not spend time and money to find out whether it came from a freak deposit or from a deep and extensive ore body the new camp is about thirty five miles east and north of luning on paradise mountain and in the center of a highly mineralized erali zed section three miles away is the camp of gold dyke which once attracted considerable attention and in which many reno people were interested pactolus which has produced some beautiful specimen ore is eight miles away and the mine which is controlled by ex governor oddie and fred siebert is but a few minutes ride th latter property now has a mill running steadily on ore that is said to average 25 per ton as it is broken down the ground on which the strike was made has been held for a number of years by old locators and of late it is said that nothing but perfunctory annual work was done on the property some few days ago a miner who was was grubstaked grub staked by ely parties believing that the ground was open for lo 10 for while they were arguing over the right of possession they thay j 3 by and allowed each visitor to take a pick go down in the hole and break down a few specimens to take home one party was observed to fill all his pockets with rich ore and then fill his shirt until it sagged over the belt which held up his trousers As lie he would run across an unusually rich piece lie he would dive his hand into his shirt front pull out rock that showed less gold and replace it with his latest find and not a word of protest came from the rival claimants the contending parties again showed their amiability and good sense by getting together and reaching a compromise after an option on the property which they gave to a mr eastman of luning while the all the rich ore dispute was on practically by visitors but taken away in sight was resumed it is said to be since work was opening up tip as rich as ever of a in referring to the potentialities trite to say that the mining district it is that surface has not yet been scratched |
