Show TO HAUL ORE ON MONORAIL sam president and largest stockholder in Clearwater the gold copper mining company was in the city tuesday and stated that preparations had been completed to begin the survey for a monorail railroad to convey the ore from the mine to the standard railroad at the intermountain mine near iron mountain says the miner wallace idaho the clearwater gold copper property is on the upper clearwater just across the divide from the head of cedar creek in montana it is quite extensively developed by three tunnels and a third tunnel is being run which is expected to prove much additional length to the ore shoot all the tunnels are in ore the lower one being 1900 feet in length and 1800 feet of that distance mr says shows an ore shoot that averages eighteen feet in width and carries an average value of 4 per cent copper 1 in silver and 2 in gold having developed a large body of ore the problem that has long confronted the company was how to get it to market and this now seems to have been solved according to a statement from mr tuesday evening some day the northern pacific will build a railroad from missoula to lewiston through the clearwater but that probably means a long wait so the clearwater gold copper will overcome the transportation difficulty without further delay after af ter much investigation mr states that his company has decided to build a monorail track a means of transportation which lie he says is in successful use for similar purposes in various countries of europe and south america the distance from the railroad to the mine is about seventeen miles but in order to secure the desired 31 per cent grade for the monorail track the distance will probably be twenty two to twenty three miles timber for the construction st can be obtained along the right of way and it is expected that the northern pacific with the prospect of large tonnage in sight will accommodate the company with steel for the single rail fred V phinney mining and civil engineer of coeur dalene formerly of this city will begin making the survey next month or as soon as weather conditions will permit mr estimates that the monorail track and equipment will cost about |
