Show new smelter and other idaho news SPECIAL correspondence wallace idaho april 8 A message has just been received direct from president fred W bradley of the bunker hill sullivan company in san francisco cal stating that he and his associates have decided to build the companas comp anys new smelter at kellogg idaho where the mines and mills are located and that construction will begin as soon as possible the site already has been purchased and plans have been prepared by bradley bruff le barthe a san francisco engineering firm the smelter will be unique among western lead reduction works in that it will include a bullion refinery the company having decided to ship no base product turning out only refined lead and silver the plant will be absolutely modern in every essential and every appliance known to metallurgical lurg ical practice will be incorporated to guard against loss in both the slag and fumes the initial capacity will be approximately 1000 1000 tons of ore daily sufficient to care for the output of both the dunker bunker hill sullivan and caledonia mines and provision will be made later to handle custom material power to operate the machinery and to supply the needs of the electrolytic refinery will be secured from the washington water power company of spokane which has an extensive system of high potential transmission lines into the coeur dalene region and already is providing current rent for the bunker hill and caledonia mines and mills surveyors now are setting the stakes and ground for the smelter will be broken in a few days said stanly A easton general manager of the bunker hill company the plant probably will be completed and ready to operate early in 1917 and will furnish for not less than men the works will be built on oil the Ding bingham liam and giovetti Gl ovett ranches a tract of acres but a short distance from the main portal of the mine workings and the mills the equipment will consist principally of sampling and roasting departments the latter provided with dwight lloyd sin bering machines and wedge turret ro asters there will be three blast furnaces and a re enforced concrete stack feet high bag houses will
