Show 0 ADVANCE IN WAGES because of increased prices paid for copper the utah copper company nas has announced an advance in wages paid to its employed emp loyes at bingham and garfield an ad yance that will mean an excess of per month and which will greatly swell the r already large payroll which the company has been disbursing for a number of years the raise amounts to about 10 per cent to salaried men and an advance of 20 cents a day to men receiving per day and more and goes into effect august 1 this advance in wages will be greatly appreciated by all concerned and especially so as it was made voluntarily by the company and without being requested by company employees and was made possible because of the urgent demand for the red metal which has resulted in advancing copper quotations to over 17 cents a pound A still further advance it is stated would probably result in still another raise of t wages in any event it is the hope of the utah copper that present conditions may be indefinitely maintained it is understood that other mining interests at bingham will also announce an advance in wages to go into eff effect act at an early day so that both employer and employee may benefit by the wave of prosperity that is sweeping over the country the increased activity in the mining industry in this section and tho the big payrolls being disbursed by mining milling and smelting smelling sm elting company ies is having a marked effect upon the business interests of salt lake and surrounding cities and towns and the increase in the circulating medium of the country is putting new life into every avenue of trade and endeavor |
