outing since the organization i of the society and it was very fitting that its initial should be to tintic gintic district one of the greatest wealth prodoc ing portions of the state of utah for the accommodation of the members of the organization and their guests two pullmans were provided the trip being over the line of the salt lake route the start was made at a m and tintic gintic junction was reached after a most delightful ride at 11 1130 30 and it was about noon when the party reached eureka at tintic gintic junction the visitors were met by walter fitch chairman of the tintic gintic committees and who aided by two of his sons howard and walter fitch jr escorted the party to the depot at eureka where a warm and hospitable welcome was extended by other in members embers of the committees and leading citizens at the elks hall immediately after where an informal reception was held a cold lunch was provided when a start was made in automobiles for mammoth robinson and silver city over a road that was s as smooth as a floor and which might well be termed a boulevard for tintic gintic people are all good roads enthusiasts along the route mines of prominence and other points of interest were shown the ahe Yi visitors at silver city at the tintic gintic plant of the utah ore sampling company two flat cars on the knight railroad had been fitted up with seats and these were speedily bo boarded added by the delighted visitors and a start made for the dragon consolidated mine over one of the most scenic and picturesque tur esque mountain railroads that is to be found in this western country af after ter an inspection of the great surface cave at the dragon the guests of the day embarked disembarked dis and made ready for the mile walk through the dragon tunnel to no 3 shaft of the iron blossom mine this trip was made by nearly all of the visitors including three ladies mrs david lemon mrs job H winwood and miss crane who displayed remarkable nerve and courage in from the foot level the party was hoisted in groups to the surface from this point after partaking of refreshments in the form of ice cream and root beer the waiting railroad cars were again boarded and the visitors were conveyed to beck tunnel no 2 shaft passing the surface workings of the colorado and the sioux consolidated from no 2 shaft a short walk led to the workings of the yankee consolidated where autos were in waiting waltina for conveyance back to eureka the visitors in this most interesting trip completely encircling 1 eureka mountain within the environments viron ments tet which there are some of the greatest mines to be found in the west arriving at F ureka eureka quite a number or oc visitors made an inspection of the surface equipment of the chief consolidated mining company at 7 p m a most appetizing banquet was served in the elks hall the caterer being the united grocery company of salt lake city B W lipman one of the members of the company assisted by members of his staff attending to the details of this swell feed after coffee had been served senator geo H dern in the absence of chairman R C gemmell called the assemblage to order and in an appropriate address stated the objects and aims of the utah section of the american institute of american engineers his remarks were followed by hugo de brizen m mayor abor of eureka who warmly wel corned the visitors in behalf of the citizens of that place and who turned over the keys of the corporation to the cites guests following the mayor brief addresses were made by john H mcchrystal hon C E allen alien walter fitch and A P mayberry the guests then listened to the reading of 0 a paper p or on the geolot geology gy of the ore deposits and geological i methods applied to mining in tintic gintic by guy AV crane geologist for the chief consolidated mining company after which an enjoyable dance was given in passing it might be well to remark that the people of tintic gintic district as is their well known cu custom did everything in n their power to make this occasion a most enjoyable one for their visiting guests the managers and superintendents of mines throughout the camp vied with each 0 ther other in show ing attention to their visitors every man mail in the district who had an all automobile placed the same at the despos disposal al of the entertainment committee and the elks in giving up their beautiful and well appointed home for the use of the section during the day disclosed the spirit of hospitality that has always characterized every member of the tintic gintic bunch of boosters boasters bo in the morning the pullmans were hauled to tintic gintic junction where they were attached to the limited and the trip back to salt lake was made in short time for the utah section the excursion was in charge of H W borough of the traffic department of the bingham garfield railroad company while the details of the trip were attended to by iy ay ernest gayford of the general engineering company ot 0 salt lake city the tintic gintic committees upon the arrival of the special at eureka distributed among the visitors a most interesting pamphlet of thirty pages operating mining companies location capitalization total output and dividends paid to date A program had also been prepared and printed together with a new topographical map of tintic gintic district
