Show si six x months in n tom reed PW gold road BY WILLIAM P oatman arizona july 26 A rodeo of mining conditions in the tom reed gold road mining district at the outset of the last half of the current year demonstrates that never before was the great gold camp of mojave county so prosperous and its future so thoroughly assured at no previous time have shipments of bullion been as frequent and valuable and as many mining properties undergoing development neither has there been a period heretofore when the mineral glass of the mining world was focused so intently upon local mines and prospects and they were in such general demand when that lusty youngster 1915 sprang from the loins of time bearing a message of hope amid the smoke of warring nations to the people of the united states and stimulating them to seek within the borders of their own country the resources requisite for their continued well being this camp took a new grip on hammer and drill so to speak and went on the mining job with renewed vigor an old adage reads keeping continually at it brings success this camp is keeping continually at it and is being rewarded with success comm commensurate en with its effort the roster of mines at the beginning of the year the mining 11 properties undergoing development did not greatly exceed a dozen since then the number has been increased to approximately sixty the roster reads as follows tom reed gold goad united eastern united western gold of ophir gold reed pittsburg gold ore orion carter boundary cone telluride big jim 31 amazona azona black range oatman mining black eagle neglected moss olla oatman tip top red cloud ivanhoe gold cliff lexington west gold road and pioneer all of the before mentioned are the holdings of incorporated mining companies in addition there are claims and groups of claims undergoing development as follows armil esperanza gilt eedna golconda hardy onetto iowa lazy boy martin sunnyside Sunny side submarine times dunbar kling peterson Ven digo brooks last chance sullivan nellie cash entry murdock moonlight george and lucky boy there are yet other holdings where assessment work and development work on a less extended scale is being done my object in including the foregoing roster in this dis patch is s to demonstrate the magnitude and extent of mining operations in the toni tom reed gold road mining district also to illustrate the favorable attitude of outside capital tow toward ard the mining enterprises here the reward of merit As in past years the tom reed mine heads the list of producers with an average gold bullion output since january 1st ast of per month second on the list is the gold road mine with an average of in gold per month since the first of the current year during that period the tom reed mine opened ore at a depth of 1075 feet and entered the era of its greatest productivity A considerable tonnage of the quartz being mined on the lower level has an average value of the general average grade of the ore in the mine Is 22 per ton dividends of 30 cents pet per share have been paid since january 1st ast on the outstanding shares since last new years day ore having a value of from to has been opened between the and foot levels in the united eastern mine on the lower level the ore is breaking to an average of per ton across a breadth oi of thirty two feet every ton of pay ore in the mine has been uncovered during the last six months and as is the case in the tom reed workings is a reward of merit for mining effort intelligently and persistently prosecuted right here it is well to state that the opening of the united eastern bonanza is due to george long and james 11 cIver two practical miners who gained 6 their knowledge of ore and ore oc currencies in the tom reed and other mines of the southwest mine deals and plants mining fining deals and transfers involving nearly half a million dollars have been negotiated here of late and yet other deals are in process of negotiation the capital interested comes from as far east as new kew york city and as far west as san francisco T mining 11 ning men from all sections of the country are visiting the district many of them are either acquiring or are option ing properties the representatives of cripple creek and other colorado capital are particularly ticul arly active here and through the theia agency a number of valuable havn changed ownership no section of the district is being given preference by the outsiders and as a result mining effort is not confined to any particular locality this catholicity has broadened the scope of mining activity forty plants in operation at this writing there are at least furty fo arty plants of mining machinery in operation here other plants of machinery are in transit and yet others have been ordered sixty stamps are dropping on ore and are crushing an ail average of 7 74 tons per stamp per twenty four hour day clay approximately tons of ore are sent to mill each month within ninety days ground will be broken tor for two more milling plants one of which will be in the market exclusively for custom ores the mine and mill machinery at the tom reed shaft was established at a cost of that in oper operation aaion at the gold road mine is equally ais as valuable the plant of the orion company is but little less valuable the pioneer plant ranks with the orion the new plant being fashioned for the united El eastern astern will be similar to and have all the efficiency of the one in commission at the tom reed the plant in operation at the united western heads the efficiency list of the smaller plants calling the roll ahen the census man called the roll here about january and checked up his tally he found the inhabitants of the district as a whole numbered about six hundred most of them were centered in the camps of oatman and gold road since then the population of oatman has increased from about three hundred to approximately six hundred and the district at large to a population of about twelve hundred new units are continually being added hence it will not be amiss to predict a population of at least two thou thousand gand prior to the close of the present twelve months coln coin aident w with ith the increase in population the established to the camp of old trails was south of Oat oatman nian the new venture is gaining in popularity and th the e sale of lots is on the increase the auto stages from tepic the points of debarkation needles and kingman bar kation from railroad arrive daily well freighted with prospective tive mine buyers and residents many new buildings have been erected in oatman and the plans for a number of others have been drawn shaft houses and quarters for mine employees are under construction st in all portions of the district and the freighting outfits arrive at all hours of the day and night loaded deep with building lumber and supplies in general tele phone communication with the mines has been established through the medium of a local exchange and the wire to outside points is sibilant with messages regarding the sale of mining realty the local out fitting stores are overcrowded with business and are adding to their clerical forces in an effort to keep pace with their orders the foregoing facts epitomize what has been accomplished during a brief six month by a people alive to the mining opportunities surrounding them and may be accepted in all faith as a harbinger of an even more industrious and prosperous future |
