Show STRIKE IN THE STEWART in commenting upon the recent strike in the stewart mine in american fork canyon utah which is owned by salt lake people the american fork citizen says news of what appears to be one of the most important strikes in american fork canyon recorded in recent years come to light this week mr W P holt came down wednesday and returned thursday with three more miners so as to put on an extra shift at the stewart mine the strike is a tour four foot vein of lead carbonate lying between the porphyry and lime the vein bears all the indications of being permanent and also of increasing in size as the tunnel is extended the stewart property where the strike was made is located in deer creek extends over the ridge into the silver lake flat and up the hill toward the silver flat mining companas Comp anys property it has been owned by mrs IL J stewart proprietor of the stewart and belmont rooming houses in salt lake city the property has been worked quite extensively on the surface in years gone by and a lot of good ore taken out four months ago mrs stewart sent J E teeter a mining engineer of wide experience up the canyon to look over the ground he was very favorably impressed with the surface showings and after returning soon fixed up an agreement whereby mr teeter became the owner with mrs stewart in the property he secured a gasoline engine an air compressor some merry widow drills and with two other men started to prove out his theories while excavating for a cabin in which to house his machinery his men uncovered a likely looking vein located about feet below the lowest former workings the vein was but a few inches in width to commence with but gradually widened out as progress was made and within the last few feet at a distance of feet from the portals of the tunnel it has developed to a width of over four feet of fine looking ore making for a point directly under the old workings an extra shift will be put to work at once and the possibilities are that the coming winter will restore the canyon to its pristine glory of old miller days prof paul an eminent government geologist was in the canyon about three weeks ago he examined the geology and mineral formation in the locality of the stewart mine very minutely and after a weeks hard bard work pronounced the district one of the most favorable for the making of large ore bodies that he had ever seen |
