Show amalgamated COPPER COMPANY president john D ryan visits subsidiary properties in montana in its issue the post of butte montana of the ath contains the following regarding the visit of john D ryan president of the amalgamated copper company in montana and also gives an outline of what may be done in the operation of the companas comp anys properties and gives an expression of the optimistic feeling entertained by mr ryan regarding the future outlook of copper mining operations the post says john D ryan president of the amalgamated copper company and party are expected to arrive over the great northern tonight from great falls they left that city at noon today for helena where they made a stop of several hours included in the party are B B thayer president of the anaconda company who accompanied mr ryan from new york C F kelley vice president of the anaconda company john gillie and charles W goodale at great falls last evening mr ryan made the statement that important enlarge ments for the great falls plant were under consideration A report had reached him that the company might close the smelting smelling sm elting plant at great falls and this story he unqualifiedly denied we are studying the question as it applies to our entire interest said mr ryan but are unable to say at this moment in what particular this development will be bb affected we will visit all of the properties in the state and after fully sizing up the situation expect to adopt a policy of enlargement lar upon which work will be started just as soon as the proper time is deemed to have arrived among the propositions we have in mind and which we hope to carry into effect will be the elevating of the black eagle dam at the boston and Alon montana tana smelter for the production of an increased power we also expect to make substantial improvements to the refinery department at the boston and montana smelter together with other minor improvements to the plant which will bring it up to a high standard it has been determined to do this construction and improvement work during the plants operation money aloney conditions have greatly improved and the matter of financing this proposed work will be far less troublesome than it would have been a few weeks or months month S ago however until we have visited the other plants in the state and have gone into the details fully we will not be able to announce our plans definitely preferring to act upon the matter as a whole 21 mr ryan and party spent yesterday afternoon at the dam at the great falls of the missouri massou ri river a few miles below the rainbow falls they found the work there pro 9 grossing satisfactorily mr lvir ryan said last night that he thought it would be possible to complete the dam before the high water stage of the river early next summer without pouring concrete during freezing wea ther mr ryan spoke encouragingly of the outlook for the copper mining industry he said that following the war in europe there would be tremendous activity in the copper business at present the industry was dependent in some measure upon the ability of the manufacturers to dispose of shipments to europe at least worth of copper intended for neutral ports is held by warring nations with that situation relieved the demand for copper would be very materially increased |
