Show MINING ACTIVE IN NEW MEXICO the value of the mine output of gold silver copper lead and zinc in new mexico in 1912 according to charles W henderson of the united states geological survey was as against 2704 in 1911 an increase of the production of gold showed an increase of silver copper lead and zinc socorro county produced chiefly from the ore mines of mogollon in gold or 67 per cent of the total state yield there were increased yields of gold in grant luna otero and santa fe counties chiefly from sili ci ou s C opper copper at and d lead ores the output of placer gold was against in hl 1911 of the silver yield socorro county produced chiefly from the mogollon district fine ounces or 73 per cent of the state total grant county furnished ounces chiefly from copper and lead ores these two counties combined produced over 96 per cent of the total silver yield the increase in the topper copper output came chiefly from the operations of the chino copper company which is mining a great low grade copper deposit at santa rita by steam shovels this ore is concentrated at hurley where a ton plant has beefs erected in five sections two sections section ss be ing in operation at the beginning of the th year 1912 and the other three being sue ces placed in operation during the th year the last being completed complo ted in ill diece decem ece ber the annual report of this company shows that no more than four sections ol of the plant were operated continuously asly foi fo any part or oi me year yea r 19 1512 but it Is planned to operate all five sections the total tota gross production by this company was 29 pounds of copper the average copper content of the ore treated was 20 7 per cent and the average recovery of cop per contained in concentrates was per cent equivalent to pounds of ca cos P per er per ton of ore treated the lordsburg Lords burg copper district was sec ond in importance with an output of 3 pounds an increase of pounds there was also a small output from hanover and pinos altos the burro burr mountain district where much development develop men work has been done in the last six years made a small output the copper mine and at san pedro santa fe cour coun ty were reopened in august and operate opera tei throughout the rest of the year of the lead output grant county pr deuced pounds chiefly from the th central district the magdalena districh distri cl socorro county yielded pounds I 1 luna county yielded pounds chiefly from the victorio district and the gaa ga 1 linas district lincoln county yielded 10 1 pounds the increase for the state to fo 1912 was pounds concentrate contained pounds of lead an am crude ore sent to smelters shelters sm elters pounds the tonnage of zinc sulphide concentrates from kelly socorro county de creased somewhat but the tonnage of zin carbonate ore increased with a re sultan small increase in zinc yield for this coun cou ty from which comes the greater part 0 the zinc output of new mexico in add tion to the magnetic separation and we concentration mill of the tri bullion corn com pany the new concentration mill mil 1 of thi th ozark company with flotation el equipment equip men also was placed in operation in 1913 an the output for 1913 may show a consider 0 n der able increase in january 1912 the t he zin zi deposits at hanover grant county were r ra opened after being idle a year and a alardt larg tonnage of zinc concentrates was shipper from pinos altos in luna county a c cot sid erable tonnage of zinc carbonate W wa shipped from the cooks district and severa sever shipments of zinc carbonate were meld mad from the tres hermanas and victorio d dai tracts the number of productive mines in ne mexico in 1912 was of which awen twenty six were placers against in 1911 which twenty were placers the avera total recoverable value per ton of ore pr laced decreased from 1154 in 1911 to jb 1912 owing to the large tonnage of low rade copper ore handled by the chino cop tier er company A total of short pitons ons of ore from new mexico was sold or treated in 1912 an increase over 1911 of ll 11 tons of this total tons ident ent to amalgamating and cyaniding cyan iding mills tons went to mills for concentrating ing only and tons went crude to Is melters of the in gold and bounces bounces of silver in bullion produced in new exico in 1912 the cyanide process yielded A in gold and ounces of as silver ilver the remainder being recovered by amalgamation |
