| Show THE NEVADA DOUGLAS superintendent S 8 arentz describes conditions at the mine S S arentz superintendent of the nevada douglas mine in yerington district nevada has submitted the following report as to mine conditions we have now put the Ludwig mine in such shape that it will be no trouble to keep up the tonnage we intend shipping to the smelter and keeping this above the grade we expect to ship we have encountered some extremely high grade ore in several places on the sixth level where I 1 refer you particularly to survey stations and the former has an average of better than 12 per cent for the last three weeks and had about 10 per ce ceia ail for the same period we have extended the face in the south sixth level for some distance and at the present time have two faces of ore in this working place we are drifting to the north and south in the vein from the crosscut sixth level showing on the sixth level we have twelve places from which we expect to draw ore and where we have erected chutes and prepared for sloping the most of this level is in sulphide ores we expect to mine from to tons of ore per day from this level and have the same of an average grade of 6 per cent but we will be compelled to mine a very small tonnage of the high grade exposed in three of the slopes the sixth level work preparing for mining has greatly iu increased creased the value of this level and is very encouraging in every way we vve will not have to do any work on this level until mining commences for shipments to the smelter the fifth level development work has also been very encouraging especially so with the new work along the level wherever the ore showed in a width suitable for which by the way is from six inches of a high grade ore upward in width we have put up an opening preparatory to ng and in a f few w cases has the work failed to open up the ore to a good width and show fair valuation As an example where we began our on the fifth level at what we call we had feet of ore that would average better than 5 per cent and we began a crosscut on the foot wall where an old had been towards the east and since running this crosscut a matter of fifteen feet we have taken out ore that has ranged froni from 5 per cent to 13 per cent the same can be said of a number of other places on this level this level will produce a good tonnage for a long time to come of excellent grade the ore is a carbonate replacing limestone running for some distance into the gossan material series of surprises the fourth level has b absen en a series of surprises especially so in what is called the raise the ore which we have stripped from froim the walls during the past several weeks has ranged from 12 per cent to 30 per cent of course there is not an enormous tonnage to of this class of material but there is enough of it to make considerable showing in smelter returns if same is shipped in the quantity that we could mine it we are working on the second and first levels getting same ready for and have about completed the work as far as actual is concerned since the chutes are in and started where there are ore streaks on the second level near the present south face of same we have opened up a series of ore streaks totaling a width of fifteen feet the material is a compact malachite with some copper silicates and is a first grade material that will run from 12 to 20 per cent this ore has every appearance of being similar to the big on the fourth level we can mine considerable tonnage from this point for some time to come at the douglas hill we arel are quickly getting the mine into shape for shipments and have greatly helped the appearance of the nine and the ore in sight by working during tha past thre or fou weeks the con of the ground irl in these workings on douglas hill permits hermits us ns to take out ore to the full width of the vein with little or no timbering gypsum shipments at the terminus of the railroad and in front of the ludwig shaft we are making a large opening or cut in the gypsum where we will make a quarry so that to tons of ore or more of gypsum may be shipped daily this quarry will be equipped with a ton storage bin a chain bucket elevator and a large crusher cruE her the plant will be run by a thirty five and a ten horsepower motor the gypsum being crushed to three inches before being loaded into the cars the cut being made into the gypsum substantiates reports that have been mads made on same salme by a high class gypsum authority this gypsum will analyze between 98 and 99 per cent pure which will give it a place on the market not held by any of the gypsum on the coast the only machinery necessary to install before completing equipment is the horsepower electrical hoist which is now on a flat car at hudson and which we will bring to the mine as soon as the railroad reaches ludwig |
