Show association OF prospectors A call has been issued from bishop california for a convention of prospectors for the purpose of organizing a national association of prospectors to be held december 14 an organization of this character may seem useless at first thought still it might result in accomplishing good to the mining industry and its influence in the long run might be far reaching no other class of men are so persistent so un untiring tiring so necessary as the unorganized prospector singly or in companies of two and three they scour the fastnesses fast nesses of the mountain ranges and the scorching deserts they are the pioneers in the mining field the forerunner fore runner runny of the mining man the investor and the capitalist he is an unknown quantity to the public at large until after months perhaps years in the mountains and canyons where his identity is hidden and his personality almost but lost tie he discovers a great deposit of ore a tonopah To a goldfield another tintic gintic and then he fairly overwhelms the mining world and Ahou thousands sands wonder why they never kne knew whim him never heard of him before the prospector is the link between the unknown and the known he discovers wh where ere nature has stored her treasures and leads the man with ith a large bank account to iv where here he can invest a thousand and realize alillion a million of the million the prospector gets but little but with this small stipend for a grubstake grub stake he be is out into the wilderness again leaving his discovery to be developed from a prospect into a divi bend paying mine by the new owner who generally reaps the financial reward as well as the credit and glory of finding a new bonanza the prospector however is soon forgotten perchance after making a valuable discovery the prospector meets with those who by hook or crook would beat him out of his find it may be that he is lacking in the means to present it to a would be investor or he may be wrongfully dispossessed of his bonanza discovery it may be that some faulty district regulation or law is against him and it is truly the case anat no effort that is organized effort has been made by the government or state to assist him in his search for the different metals or to protect him in his discoveries when he has made them he practically has no voice in the making of wining mining laws in providing measures for protection and the easement if his arduous and sometimes hazardous profession and occupation because he stands alone could he but join with others in the establishment if an association he would undoubtedly prove a power in throwing safeguards around his chosen occupation and in raising the standards of the mining industry and the fact that a prospectors association had been formed would give a certain dignity to his calling which would give him more confidence in himself and a higher standing in public estimation we believe that this is an excellent undertaking der taking and hope to see the organization perfected on a basis that will be helpful to the prospector as well as to the mining industry in general |
