Show MONEY IN THE BANK when a man has money in the bank and needs a little change he usually draws a check against his account with many mining men however it is different they have good shipping ore blocked out in their mine workings but when they need money they seem to forget all about this ore which is to all purposes as good as an account with a bank and spend a great deal of time in the endeavor to borrow money or to raise funds by mortgage or note A mining man came into this office a few days ago and wanted to know if we could direct him to someone who would buy his property in reply to leading questions he stated that he had a hundred tons of ore on the dump that would average 75 to the ton that he was but five miles from the nearest railroad shipping point and that the wagon road was good he also stated that within three miles from the mine a mill was in operation where he could have his ore treated blocked out in the mine workings at least tons more of pay ore was in sight and yet this man wanted money he had what was as good as a bank account and yet he would not draw on it if he were almost penniless he could get credit at the supply houses ore haulers would wait until returns were received from the shipment for their pay and the smelt ers would look after i railroad and other charges this mine owner however did not have wit enough to take advantage of these favorable conditions lie he really had money in the bank but rather than draw on it he whiled away his time in the endeavor to borrow money to interest buyers to sacrifice his interests for a mere pic tance when in fact he was a capitalist did lie but know it and as independent as a holder of government bonds there are mine owners we know of who have from five to fifty tons of ore on the dump running from to to the ton but who are so lacking in good business judgment that they do not ship and get ready cash for their ore men who could take out a ton of ore a day possibly two or three tons but who idle about camp bemoaning the hard times and waiting for a buyer to come along when they could go to work and in a short time become independently rich they have money in the bank but do not seem to know it to sense the fact and so they go broke and hike from place to place owing almost everyone they meet and bewailing their hard luck such conditions seem impossible im pio probable bable but they are true nevertheless and paupers haupers are to be met with in almost every mining district who have money in the bank |
