Show u 0 THE FLAT WIRE CABLE park city utah nov 10 after reading the very able article on mining and milling at the daly judge mine in your issue of october by leroy A palmer I 1 beg leave to take exception to one part of it and that is where he states there is one record at the daly judge of a flat wire rope cable lasting five years and that being an exception I 1 was master mechanic for the anchor company for one year before the company was taken laken over by the daly judge company and was master mechanic for the daly judge people for three and one half years after that time during these years the flat wire cables at the anchor and daly judge did not cost these companies five cents for repairs either in loss of time or otherwise after four years of continual use mr stanley green of the american steel wire company pronounced them to be in first class condition I 1 believe the care and methods we used had considerable to do with their life of this mr palmer makes no mention we used a steam cleaning device and immediately after cleaning always lubricated with a compressed air lubricator a blue print of which I 1 enclose herewith I 1 want to say that a five year life for a flat cable at the anchor and the daly judge was not an exception but the rule when I 1 left there in september 1905 the west cable was good for at least faix months longer without lacing and the east cable should have been good for several years respectfully yours M i mcgill mgr new york bonanza mining co |
