ranks of the Aldrich forces on the wool schedule of the tariff bill Senator Do ilver of offered offered fared numerous amendments look n to toa toa a 8 reduction of the financial rates but In 1 instance the amend amendments amendments amendments ments were votes down and the rom com committee sustained The first of Mr Dol livers suggestions had for its object the confining duty on mixed cloths to the wool In them which amendment was wa as defeated by a vote of 31 to 43 Object of Mr Warren contended that the ob oh object obJect of ot this provision was to prevent the importation of cheap cloths but Mr Dolliver argued that there might be some people who would be benefited by having cheap clothes brought in from abroad On this vote Mr Dolliver was supported by Senators Beveridge Bris Bristow Bristow BrIstow tow Brown Clapp Cummins LaFollette LaFollette LaFollette lette and Nelson el on while Senator MeEn McEnery McEnery ery of Louisiana was the only Demo Democratic Democratic Democratic cratic senator who voted with the Re Republicans Republicans Republicans publicans against the provision Many of Mr amendments were along the same lines lIn lineas as the first and andon
