and even big boulders The conduit running from State street to Main Mam street is partly clogged up and Is ig only kept open by the strong rong force of ot the wa ter The bed of the stream from Main street to Third West is covered with a foot of sand and gravel and near the en trance of the conduit on oa Third West Vest est street the sand BAnd and gravel grawl has filled the stream within a foot loot of the top of the banks Beyond the conduit on Sixth West Vest and North Temple streets the sand and gravel has entirely filled the bed bad of the stream and the water in consequence is forced down the roadway The water in the stream proper is not four Inches deep on the roadway there are from two I to to three feet of water An attempt was made yesterday to dredge the creek but the effort proved a failure The water which was running In the creek was coming down at such a force that it was useless to attempt the work with scrapers The only way In which the stream can be cleared of its obstructions is possibly by the use of a steam shovel The steam shovel shoel belong ing to P J Moran was taken to North Temple street and Third West for an at tempt to remove the debris from the creek Residents Help in Work So violent was the water at 2 yesterday esterd y morning that the gang of m OO men of the street department and P J Morans construction department could not hold bold the water gravel to the tracks of the Utah Light Railway company At this point three teams were kept busy yesterday afternoon hauling away the debris and only with much difficulty was the street streetcar
