Show I IN MEMORIAM c At a meeting of the th board of directors of or the Salt Lake L ke public pubic library the following proceedings were held Whereas A message has cone come to us that he who was John Quack Packard In the fullness of years has sunk Into his final sleep Whereas He was in life lite a masterful captain of ot Industry one to storm tonn i the crags and from the stubborn stub orn hills to wrest their treasures Whereas While tolling toiling for great wealth we and acquiring it he kept his heart open to every duty of citizenship growing gentler and more considerate of others as his wealth Increased and Whereas As a culminating act of generosity and for the lifting up of the minds and hearts of the people he built and presented to this city this beautiful library now Therefore The board of trustees of the library holding In profound gratitude and tender remembrance his public spirit his noiseless but lofty beneficence do hereby Resolve That in the death of John Q Packard the country has lost losta a sterling and arid stalwart citizen this state and city a sincere friend and great benefactor Resolved That in respect for his memory this library be closed for three days that the tablet In the entrance hall hail on which is Js embossed the record of the regal gift of ot o the library be draped In crepe for thirty days Resolved That a copy of these proceedings be sent to Edward W Packard who superintended the building of this structure for his uncle And to the high soul of the strong man that has died Hall Hail and farewell Done this day of October A D 1908 1905 q |
