stop here for four days because the buffalo lo were close cloie by and they could kill plenty and dr dry the tho meat here North of ot the camp was a hill lull on whiCh grew many cedar c dar trees and during curing the day the poor boy had overheard people saying that many Indians had been killed on that hill among those trees They said ald that no noone noone noone one ought to go there for it was a moment when he came to this hole but then he went In and when he had entered he saw s w there sitting oy by h the fire a big she bear and some little cubs As the tho boy stood there looking at her the she bear said Raid to him ur I am m sorry that you have come here My husband is the one who alto ho kills persons and brings them here for the children and me mo to eat You had better go goback goback goback back to your your quickly or he will eat you up He has gone goni hunting but he will vill soon be back again If H he finds you here he will kill you The poor boy said Well VeU I came breath and took the bullet hullet out and went around the lodge singing and making motions and then he took hold of o the she bear and lifted her to her feet and supported her and an pushed her around and a d helped her herand herand herand and at last she walked and was well Then rhen he called the boy to him and said Now I will do the same thing to you And And he did the tho same thing to the boy bo and brought him to life in the same way Then he said That is one power I give you ou tonight Then he gave the gun to the boy and went to the theother theother theother other side of o the lodge and sat up and said Now I Ivill will vill open my mouth and you shoot me right in the mouth He opened his mouth and the boy shot him and hp fell cIl over After a moment he got up on his feet and slapped Bear told him to put his paint hid feather and his war club in this hide and to wrap them up and make SL a al bundle bund e of them Then he said aid Now my son go to your people and when you get home ome hang your y ur bundle up at the back b ck of ot the lodge and let the people know nothing of this Keep It secret Wherever you go or wherever you OU are I shall be with you ou The boy went home to the camp and told his mother to hang hani up the bundle as the Bear had said Next N d morning he was in camp and all the people saw him They were surprised for they had thought that ho ito had been killed By this time the Pawnees had nad all the buffalo buffalo buffalo falo they wanted and the next day they started 1 back to their village After ute they had reached their home the boy told tol 1
