Show WHAT WUA T B 8 H II HT ROBERTS SAID SAIDi IN T i N view of the controversy contro lY as to whether B H Roberts Robarts said in his Murray speech Go and see eee Joe or Go and see seo Jones J the following affidavit from Justin I R Davis stenographer r for the Third district court will prove interesting and probably conclusive e eState State of Utah County of Salt Lake Justin E R Davis being duly sworn on his oath deposes and says that he be was present at the Democratic meeting held at the Murray opera house No November November November vember 3 1910 and was near the speakers that he reported in shorthand nd the speech of ot the tha Hon B H Roberts that in reference to the controversy as to whether Mr Roberts said Go and see Jones Jonea or Go and see Bee Joe I distinctly understood the speaker to use the word Joe I so wrote it in my notes and so transcribed it and furnished it to The J K L DAVIS Subscribed and sworn to before me this day of ot November 1910 AXEL H STEELE My commission expires March Karch 3 1913 Notary Public As Aa the stenographer of the tho Third district court Mr Davis takes in shorthand the proceedings of that court It is necessary that he be he accurate and that he be able to hear distinctly which qualifications he abundantly possesses At t the Salt Lake theatre last Saturday night following the publication of Mr Roberts letter in which he disputed the accuracy of Mr M Davis report Mr Davis Davi discussed the matter with the other two stenographers who were at the Murray urray meeting One of thorn them agreed with Mr Davis that Roberts B H had said Go and see Joe Joet and aud D H Roberts the third stenographer plainly heard beard the conversation and aud said nothing He did not argue the matter at that time and acquiesced in iu what the other stenographers were saying Roberts D 1 H has since made an affidavit that his hia notes show that Roberts B H said Go and see Jones but even this second Mr r Roberts does not point out the Jones that they were ere to go rind ana see sec Fourteen persons persona who vho were at the Murray meeting make an affidavit that Roberts B D H said Go and see Jones Joncs about it They Thet add the words about it and the reports of the three stenographers agree n ag re those words were not mentioned by Roberts B D H Who is more Inure likely to be correct the stenographer of the th Third district court or fourteen persons who were only casually listening l |
