Show BANKERS MEET TO MAKE PLANS San Francisco Financial Institutions Institutions Institutions Will Be Able to Meet All AH Demands Upon Them GOVERNOR PARDEE UPHELD LEGAL HOLIDAYS NECESSARY AT PRESENT San Francisco April 23 The mem members members membern bers bern of the Clearing House association met this morning at the residence of Mrs Eleanor Martin The association was in session for about an hour but its plans were not in sufficient form to tobe tobe tobe be given out It was announced how however however ever that the association had passed a resolution upholding and commend commending ing the action of Governor Pardee In declaring a legal holiday from day to today today today day The association regarded this as the best possible method of giving time timeto to the banks to get their affairs Into such shape that they may pay their depositors and meet other oblIgations obligation without the trouble that would be like likely likely ly Iy to ensue if they were to be called upon at the present time Able to Meet All Demands It was the general opinion that the banks would be able to meet all calls upon them when the time comes for forthe forthe forthe the reopening of their doors E H Harriman president of the Southern Pacific company and head of the great gr at Harriman railway system was vas present at the meeting of the Clearing House association He ex cx expressed expressed pressed the deepest sympathy for tho th se who had suffered through the disasters which have overtaken the city but he heas was cas as very optimistic over oer the outlook for the future He said that he be believed believed believed that San Francisco would rap idly recover from the serious blow that had been struck at its commercial life and he announced his intention to re rc remain remain main In the city as long as his inter interests interests interests ests in the east would permit him to do doso doso doso so and further to do all that he could to help in the building again of the city to a commercial eminence greater than before Will Act in Unity While the Clearing House association was in session representatives of the tho savings banks of San Francisco were meeting In another room fo 10 the Martin house to consider the affairs of the smaller institutions The savings banks formed f a temporary committee to han handle handle handie dle die the present crisis The savings banks also decided to act in unity in their efforts to pull through the pres present present ent ont situation in the best way possible |
