doubt as to the truth of Orchards Orchards ards confession slOn among those who vho are familiar with the crimes committed c In in Idaho and Colorado and charged to the inner circle of the Western Peroration of Miners I attribute Orchards Orchards ards confession to the great brain of James McFarland who has been employed by the state to run down the murderers of Governo I have seen Orchard myself since this confessIOn was made He told me that no promises of clemency or reward had been held out to him hirn by McFarland or anyone else M McFarland was aided in his work by Orchards Orchards many other things which will later be made known at the trial have proved the truthfulness of Orchards confession beyond all question to those familiar with his hi story The state desires to secure justice There is no thought of punishing the inno innocent innocent cent or waging war on any labor organization The assassination assassination nation of a grave crime against the state of Idaho was committed As its executive I felt it my duty to bend every energy toward the discovery of the guilty parties and their fitting punishment ALL REWARDS HAVE BEEN WITHDRAWN I wish to announce that I have withdrawn the offer of reward made by the state for the punishment of the guilty parties and have advised that the parties who had offered rewards to do likewise They have agreed tOJ to and today there is not a single dollar of reward offered for the con conviction conviction of the murderers of A reward of 1 is now offered by us for information leading to the arrest of JL J JL L Simpkins and this is the only reward now offered in conr con COIl r with the assassination My reason for withdrawing the reward and advising others who had offered re rewards ards to withdraw them th i is that I felt that no detective d associatIOn or anyone else IS is entitled to the reward offered by the state Harry Orchard w was s arrested before any detectives here viere on the ground on information class of citizens can call be found than those who live in Canyon county 1 They have no no prejudice against any class of people be they laborers or capitalists I am a firm believer in organized labor
