Show SCHOOL AfFAIRS ARE DISCUSSED The city and county superintendents of ot the schools of Utah met yesterday In th thir session room of the office of ot the board of or education Several papers on educational educational educational topics were read and discussed State Stat Superintendent of Schools A C Nelson presided and County Superintend Superintendent ent Thomas Thomad E B McKay of Weber county acted as secretary The meeting was waa called to order at 10 yesterday morning After Atter a few remarks by b the state superintendent a paper was read by Professor William M Stewart of ot the state normal school on How Teachers Institutes May Become More Effective An Interesting discussion followed County Consolidation of ot Schools was waa the subject of a paper read by b J W V Smith of ot the Jordan district in which tho the radical changes in the district school system recently proposed were taken up At the afternoon session word was re received received from J W V Widtsoe of the state agricultural college stating that he was unable to be ba present He H sent the paper he had prepared on Elementary Agriculture turn ture in the Public Schools which was waa read by Superintendent Orson Ryan of Wasatch county count J Leo Fairbanks supervisor of draw Ing in the Salt Leke Lake schools addressed the superintendents on Art in the Pub lic lie Schools The issuance ot or temporary teachers certificates was discussed in formally Superintendent A C Nelson and Professor W V M H Stewart made mado brief talks on the choosing of ot text books for tor the next five years which will be taken up at the text book convention to be held next year car One of the purposes of ot the organization Is to secure uniformity of or methods and courses of study among the schools of ot the state |
