Show VALUE OF SPRAYING Illustrated by Display of Fruits From Experiment Station One of the most valuable exhibits in inthe Inthe inthe the horticultural pavilion from a fruit growers viewpoint Is the display of fruit shown from the Utah experiment station by Professor E D Ball director illustrating the value and importance of orchard spraying and of ot spraying at the right time In the right rI ht way wa and with the right materials Four years ago the station took charge of an orchard which was badly infested with the codling moth For the first three years ears the trees were sprayed twice but this year but one ap aI application application was made The result ought to convince the most skeptical of the pos possibility possibility of thoroughly controlling the ap apple apple appie pie worm The product of one tree was shown at the fair Of the total number of apples grown but 18 specimens were wormy The remaining apples appie were free from worms and as sound as a dol do dollar dollar dolar lar without blemish of any kind Only half of 1 per ver cent of the entire crop of ot apples was ws This is getting pretty nearly to pioneer conditions be before before before fore the advent of the apple worms when all nil the fruit in the state was free from Insects and diseases Keeping everlastingly at It is the price of suc sue success success cess in fruit growing and It Is gratifying to know a 0 fact tact which many doubted that insects and diseases can be kept under control and good fruit grown Professor Bans Balls demonstration is an invaluable ono one and ard is fully appreciated than any other branch of agriculture a If It as has been amply demonstrated grain can be grown very profitably on the arid lands of ot the state of ot which there are millions of acres now unoccupied a line of farming will be opened up which will enrich the state be beyond beyond beyond yond computation When all the grain produced in the state Is grown without Irrigation the water now used for that crop can be turned to more profitable use useIn useIn In the growing of at more profitable crops such as fruits of various kinds worth an annually annually from to SOO an acre or to beet tomato or vegetable growing crops worth from 75 to per p r acre The state arid farms farma this year gear have produced not only phenomenal crops of ot grains and grasses but a splendid quality ot of pota cereals Every exhibit was correctly named so BO that farmers who wished could study stud and compare the dif different different different ferent varieties and choose the kinds which suit them best Southern Experiment Farm The display of fruits nuts dried and ana cured fruits sweet potatoes etc from the southern Utah experiment farm col eel collected collected by the state board of ot
