that the names of candidates for district judges like those of candidates lor for othor other offices shall appear on the ballot as the nominees of some political party in the selection of such candidates we insist that party affiliation should be ignored and that no mau man should receive a nomination as a reward for party services the nominees for judges 0 should be men learned and experienced in the law men of unimpeachable integrity teg 0 rity men of such courage in the discharge of their duties that every litigant rich or poor individual or corporate without regard 0 to creed political belief or political influence may be assured that even banded justice will be administered the constant meddling a A d interference in petty pa partisan politics by our judges lt has become belong no judicial officer of this state in which the spirit of progress and reform now exists should owe his nomination and election to the fact that his service to his bis party merits reward or to the fact that he has been able to so control the party machinery or enlist the aid of political bosses as to secure his election to the bench he should not be placed in a position where he may be confronted with the problem of the possible effect of his decision in any case upon his chances of re election it is not fair to him nor is it fair to ahli liti litigants 0 and before him reco recognizing this great truth the de democratic socratic party of this district in their recent judicial convention beld in Ogden 0 den nominated one democrat arthur E pratt and one republican alfred W agee both of 0 ogden n den and both chosen for their fitness for the off lice as candidates for judges of the district courts of this district and so far as it was in their power under the present is a step in the right direction which should roe r ceide the ca ement of the people reforms are not accomplished if they do not have back of them public opinion is best made known by the vote vole of
