Show Death of Pastor Welch. Rev. Josiah Welch, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city, dud at 2:55 o'clock Sunday morning, at the residence of his mothei , in Uhrickaville, Ohio. His death, though lamented, waa not unexpected. unex-pected. He was afflicted with a pulmonary disease, and his friends have realized for some time that he waa not long for this world. On tbe 8th of last March ho left this city for the east, accompaaied by his loved and charming bride the daughter of our respected townsman Prof. Coyner. His wile soon fell sick and died, and Mr. Welch gradually sank from tbat time, until death haa taken him alFO. He was about 31 years of aee, and was an intelligent, agreeablo gentleman gentle-man whose friends here were numbered num-bered by bis acquaintances. His first and only charge in the nrnistry waB the Salt Late pastorale, in which he was an earnest worker since his arrival here in 1871. He will be tuned to-day, and out of respect to him the Salt Lake Collegiate institute j will be closed until Wednesday morning. morn-ing. At 11 o'clock on next Sunday union memorial services will be held in the Presbyterian church, when the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodist societies will unite. A sermon will be delivered by Rev. W. M. Barrowa. Tbe new pastor of the Presbyterian church ia Rev. Robert G. McNiece, who ia expected to assume his duties in May. |
