Show AN ORDINANCE In Relation to the Salt Lake city Waterworks and the Supply of Water from the Main Pipes, and Tor Other Purposes. Section 1. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake city, that the Waterworks constructed by the Corporation to supply S Ut Lake city with water from City Creek cailou, shall be designated and known as the ddlt Lake City Waterworks; ihey shall be the property of said city, and shall be under the sole and exclusive control of the City Council, who may from time to time direct the construction construc-tion of such reservoirs, water tanks, water mains, service pipca and fire nydrants as tho necessities of tho in habitants) of the city nmy require, j The City Council r-hull ulso appoint , a Superintendent ot Wuterwurks, an Assessor of water ratc$, and ench other officers us mny bo uecesary to carry on tne works Ali otlictTa so appointed shall hold office during the pleasure '-ifs:iid Council. No other person shall open or operate any fire hydrant, or it'.empt to draw water therefrom. Hec 4. Any person who shall wilfully wil-fully or can -less ly run a vehicle i'amst a tire hydrant, or otherwise wilfully or carelessly injure the same, or draw, or attempt to dr;iw water therefrom, shall be subject to a tine of not exceeding one hundred dollars, and be liable lur all damages done to said hydrant. Sec. o. Wrenches for fire hydrants shall be furnished by orler of the City Cjundl to the Fire Department, lor the.r use, and to such other persona per-sona as may be deemed proper by the Council, and any officer or member ol the Fire Departrm nt, or ot:ier person per-son having charge ot one or nioie nt said wrenches, who shall permit the same to be taken from their place of deposit, or to be ueed for any other purposes than those authorized by the City Council, shall be liaole to a fine of not exceeding fifty dollars for each oflense. Sec. 6. VI benever any persoo desires to obtain a supply of ivater Irom the Ciiy Waterworks, he shall make application therefor, verbally or in writing, to the Mayor and sign an agreement that he will be governed by such rules and regulations not inconsistent in-consistent witb this ordinance as may be prescribed by tne Mayor (or the control ot the water supply; said ap plication must state the location, kind of building, number of rooms, and the entire area of grounds to be sup plied, and fully aud truly state the purposes for which the water is to be used, and upon notification Irom the Mayor, the Superintendent of Water works is authorized to extend, at the expense of the city, the service pipe to the inside line ol the curb stone, or : to within eixteeu feet of the property line, at the point most convenient for supplying tho premises of the applicant. appli-cant. Sec. 7. When application is made by a tenaut, it must be accompanied by the tignaUire of the owner ul the building or grounds consenting to and authorizing the introduction of water into such premises, and ex pressly agrtseniK to the rules and regulations embodied in the applica tion and to the proviuous ol this ordi nance. Cec. 8. To each service pipe there shall be attached, at the curb, a stopcock stop-cock and key box, which snail be paid for by the consumer, and be under un-der the exclusive control of the Suoer- ln'eudent. If any water consumer shall permit any person Irom other premises, or any unauthorized person, to use or obtain water from said consumer's con-sumer's premises or water fixlurts, whether inside or outside ot his building, build-ing, the supply o! water may be cut of! and the amount paid lorieiled. Sec. 12. If any consumer shall wasta any water, or allow it to be wasted by negligence, such as imperfect im-perfect atopa or valves, or leaky joints or pipt-s, or allowing tankb to leak or to overflow, or waatefully run it through hasins or other apparatus, or use the water lor purposes other than stated in the application and license, or in violation of the rules and reyu latinos for controlling, the wa'er sup ply, and the provisions of this ordi , uarce, tho water may be cut ufl from such consumer, and all paymeuta for feilcd, unless such person ahull promptly pay such additional charges as may be imposed. Whoever, by hirmelf, family, servants or agents, shall use i the water coming through the water mains without tiil obtaining a license therelor, or shall without authority open any stopcock, valve or other fixture attached lo the yslem ul water supply, nr shall In anywise injure, delace or impair any part, or any appurtenace of the Waterworks, or shall cast anything into any reservoir nr tank of the said works, shall be lined not exceeding one hundred dol lars lor each offense, or by imprison ment not exceeding six months, or by both fin and imprisonment. Super-intendent. Sec. 18 Steam boilers will not be allowed to fill from the pipes direct, but must be provided with a tank and supplied therefrom. Sec. 19. Neither will continuous continu-ous streams of water be permitted to flijw from hydrants; faucets or stops over washbasins, water-closets or urinals, or from any apparatus for drawing water. Sec 20. Wherever the water mains are laid, no person shall be allowed to convey the waters of City-Creek City-Creek Irom any ditch or place by private pipes for fountains, mechaui-cal mechaui-cal or other purposes, except the ordinary irrigation of lots, under direction of the Watermaster, nor shall said waters be heiealter diverted Irom the ordinary irrigation ditches for the supply of steam boilers or other mechanism, and all resolutions, ordinances and permits allowing any person to convey the wattrs of City Creek, or any part thereol from the ordinary ditches by pipes for any use or purpose whatever, wherever the water mains are laid, are berebv re pealed. Sec. 21 The assessor of water rates shall make semi annual assessments assess-ments of water takers, based upon the rates hereiniiftt-r established, and dating Irom the first day ot January aud the first day ot July of each year respectively. Said assessor shall make prompt returns of his doings to the City Recorder, who shall charge to each pHrson the amount assei-sed against him, which amount shall be payable on demand, and shall be col- ieoieu auu paia into the Uity Treasury in the name manner as license feet are collected and paid in.
