Show ELECTION SUPERVISEES. The appointrmr nt of election supervisors super-visors by the government is imperfectly imperfect-ly nnderatood by tbe people generally, owing to the fact tho law is seldom enforced. It is a provision of tho statute entitled "The Election Fran chise," under which upon the application appli-cation or petition of two or more citizens to the United States judge of the district, made in writing, he shall appoint two citizen, of different politics, to supervise the election in each precinct, whose duty it shall be to purge the registration, prevent fraudulent votibg, and tee that there is an honest count. Tho law goes a" far as to say that the supervisors shall "personally scrutinize, count and canvass each billot in tbe (Jcctiyn district or voting precinct cast." Thn law prescribes whero, on the day of election, the supervisors slmll talc a their stand. |
