Show A Suggestion. Utah, it seems, is favored with an unusual number of ha:d characters of the west. Some heartless individual indi-vidual has asserted that Utah is the "hard-eggs' Saratoga," and that whenever a desperate fellow gets tired of liberty and finds a certain locality too interesting he elevates his bed and ambulates towards Utah, understanding un-derstanding that he can there fiud free board and lodgings and congenial con-genial souls, by simply knocking a man down, and that when he be comes weary of restauranting at the, peniteutiory, he has merely to re-elevate re-elevate his bedding and bid adieu to the mansion that has afforded him temporary sustenance. In view of this, and the fact that thene fellows gonerally ihow their gratitude by leaving something with which to remind the people of their existence, ex-istence, another person suggests thnt a new penitentiary be erected. He says be feels assured tht the officers ', of the railroads, and, in fact, any capitalist who has means invested in railroads or anywhere within the reaoh of Utah's penitentiary repre-sentaves, repre-sentaves, would willingly contribute towards the buildiug of a secure and oorufortabie home for these poor tallowsin tal-lowsin fact, would buiid it at their own expense. If, however, tho ter ritory will not allow this, he thinks it would be advisable for those inter-euted inter-euted to engage a poa-e of men (at their owd expense) to aid the peni-teutiary peni-teutiary warden and his assistants in their arduous and dangerous duty of keeping within the prisou walls these characters, when once placed there. He feels confident that it would be genuine economy to follow out such a plan, and would bj rewarded with the thanks of a grateful community. |
