Show The ew Yokk assembly has passed a bill amending the statute , relative to the election of president and vice'presidont. It provides for electing electors-at-large on the state ticket, and tho remainder on tickets in the several congressional districts. The object of this bill is probably to iecura a sort of minority representation, representa-tion, giving lo each district of the state the privilege of choosing an elector representing the sentiments of a majority of its voters. Had this system prevailed at the late presidential presiden-tial election New York Btate would have chosen seventeen Hayes electors and eighteen Tilden electors, instead of thirty-five Tildeo electors, as was actually the case. |
