Show City Council. Meeting of the city council, Tues day evoning, Mayor Lilllo pn-siilmg: A petition, tigned by Junius F. Wells, John Nicholson, Geo. F. GihU and 1,000 others, members nf the Young Men's Mutual Improvement associations, asking the council lo restrain and discourage, eo far as it had power under tho charter, thu sale of intoxicatiug liquors, was read and referred to the committee ou municipal munici-pal laws. I The Salt Like city gas company petitioned the council to restrain all parties from laying water ervice pipe or setting pssts within six feet of gas service pipes. Referred to the committee on municipal laws. The committee to whom waa referred re-ferred the petition of Morris &. Evans for the privilege of quarrying lime rock from a certain designated ledge northcattol the Warm Springs, re- ( commended that the prayer of tho ( petition bo granted, and that M. it E. pay into tho city troasury 25 per annum for the grant. Adopted. The committee to wboia was referred the petition of J. F. P. Pascoe, asking the c:rporatiou to deed to him in fee simple n certain tract of land north of the Warm Springs, recommended that Lha prayer of the petition be not granted, but that Mr. Pasroe bavo tho privilege ol quarrying lime rock on said land during the pleasure of the council at a yearly rental of $50. Adopted. Sundry bills from the water works amounting to $''.2.8- wero allowed. The sum of $11,537.33 waa appropriated appro-priated to take up a corporation nolo held by Dennis Long & Co. for water pipes. Bill of C. II. Basset t for putting down a concrete crossing from the Deseret National bauk to Kimball & L.awrencc 8 corner, -ji.ju, was allowed. Tho committee ou municipal laws presented a bill for an ordinance, licensing and regulating plumbers. The bill was passed. John R. Winder wjs reelected atattaor and collector of taxes and vrater rates for Salt Lake city lor the year 1S77. Council adjourned till next Tuesday ovening at 7 o'clock. |
