Show City Council. Meeting of the city council Tuesday evening, Mayor Little presiding : Petition of O. J. Morgan and others, asking that the merchants' license ordinance be amended so as to make a reduction of license where a merchant's stock is no more than ioOO. Referred to the committee on license. The mayor presented his report of expenditures in June and July from the contingent fund placed in hiB hands $044. G3. Report received I aod placed on file. Alderman Pyper'a police report for July: Number of cases, 10J; cash tines, $4Jo.50; labor fines, $353. Report Re-port placed on tile. The committee on claims, to whom was referred the petition of Mes-dames Mes-dames Mary Ellen and Ruth Kimball, Kim-ball, asking compensation for damage dam-age done to their well by tbe breaking break-ing of the J9ih ward ditch, reported that said ditch was for tne exclusive benefit of the 17th, ISth and 19 Id wards; that a m amber of the last named ward on the occasion of tbe damage, turned in more water than the duch would carry, occasioning the injury to the wtsll, and recommending recom-mending thai the 17th, ISlIi aod 19tb wards be requested to make good the loss sustained by the petitioners. Report Re-port adopted. The committee on claims, to whom was referred the petition ol the Wasatch Wa-satch fire company asking the city to refund to the company $-'J expended for firemen's shirts, recommended that $100 be appropriated by tbe several sev-eral fire companies to pay lor shirts and belts purchased by the members. Adopted. Tbe committee on water works, to whom was referred the petition of merchants and others in regard to the reduction of water rateS, recommend-ded recommend-ded that as soon as practicable water be charged to consumers by meter measurement, at tbe rate of ten cents per thousand gallons, and that in the meantime pending the arrival of meters, an agent be appointed to contract with consumers, aud collect I the tax lor water. Tho report was received and adopted, aud tho com mil tee on municipal laws was instructed in-structed to draft such ordinanco as was necessary in the matter. The sum of $1,000 was appropriated appro-priated :is a contingent fund lo be drawn against by the supervisor of streets. The subject of repairing tbe North Temple street aqueduct was relerred lo the special committee on improvements. improve-ments. City recorder's salary for July, $200, was appropriated. The committee on municipal laws reported a bill for an ordinance rcgu-: latiug the sale of ipiritous and fermented fer-mented liquors. The bill was amended amend-ed and passed. Tne committee on municipal laws also reported a bill for an ordinance regulating the manufacture and sale of distilled and fermented liquors. The bill was road, and pending its discussion the council adjourned till next Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. |
