Show All HerRiKhts, The Xew York Times has this to say of a lady who has invested some money in Utah mines: The advocates of extensive lights for women will feel greatly encouraged encour-aged at the success of Dr. Elizi D. Murphy, ol West Twenty-third street, New York. Dr. Eliza is not only a physician, but a bankrupt. She achieved medicine; what was to prevent pre-vent her from achieving bankruptcy? Nor is Eliza a bankrupt of a very small oider. She swimmcth not among the tadpoles and hltle fishes. Her liabilities are $110,000. Atone lime hhe had become the owner of ten mines, including the Nellie and Silver Cloud of Utah, aud she was interested in others. She paid out such sums as $30,000 and $35,000 at once, and she bad' $25,000 invested in the Manhattan Packing manufacturing company. It mny be said by a few that Dr. Eliza would perhaps be happier at this moment if she had spent her money in elevatiDg her struggling sisters throughout the country, but a business woman is not so very diller-ent diller-ent from a business mm, and her motto was, doubtless, and very naturally, natur-ally, "Business betore philanthropy." It should cheer the advaucing lair aex to know that at last one of their number has reached the proud distinction dis-tinction of a bankrupt. |
