The dam broke at about 6 o'clock this morning, after workmen bad been engaged all night trying to prevent tho disaster. Toe machine shop of Samuel A. Midon, and two houses, were debtroyed. The dam at Siaflord Hollow, an iron bridee, one tenement house and a grist mill were washed away, and the road was cut out for thirty-five teet. The dam at Glenville went out, but the mill stood firm. At Stafford's aprinss the dam was also carried away. Eight tenement houses belonging to this mill were swept away, together with L. V. Crane's store, Home Mutual fire insurance in-surance company's building, and the Congregational church. The Granite mills were damaged by being undermined, under-mined, but stand. The Suilordahire national bank, Gerry's stables, the bioct of Baker & ffcald, the storehouse store-house and granary of G. O. Cleveland, wurwuuuBcs ui a. w. omim & uo.; Siioddy &, Flock, dealers in lumber, the coal yards or C. J. Holmes and Brough Hall, and the engine house were all swept away.
