Show Some of the teachers in the public schools of New York have petitioned for the privilege of punishing pupils in case they are authorized to do so by the parents. This ia objected to on the ground that it will divide the pupils into two classes, those who may and those who may not be beaten. In the beat regulated schools of the present day, however, the practice of flogging as a punishment has been relinquished by the teachers themselves, them-selves, who say that they can govern their pupils bettor without the rod than with it, and they ore unwilling to take in their hands the disagreeable disagree-able task of flogging the children committed to their care. |
