The members of the committee lire Sherman, Boutwell and Bogy on the part ol the senate, and Randall, Landers and Payne as representatives of the house. The report will recommend recom-mend the p:isage of the measure substantially sub-stantially the same as the Randall bill, providing for the purchase ol silver bullion to the amount of 20,-000,000 20,-000,000 with any money iu the treasury, trea-sury, and its coinage and issue in the slipe of subsidiary silver coin; provided pro-vided that not more' than $1,000,000 worth shalt be purchased at any one time, and piovided also that tbe whole amount of tilvcr coin issued in this way and in exchange for pactional pac-tional currency retired, shall not exceed ex-ceed $50,000,000. The senate amendment amend-ment striking out the word "now" from the clar.se authorizing the isitte o( silver coin now in the treasury is agreed to by the committee. The house amendment adopted on motion of Landers, and providing lor the revivid of the old silver dollar with unlimited leiral tender power, is stricken out by the conference committee, com-mittee, and so also is tho senate amendment repealing the legal tender ' power o? the trade dollar. Landers says he intends to oppose the adoption of the report by the houaa, and thinks the house will stand by its former action on his amendment. |
