Show I Forgot The San Francisco Chronicle, in a recent isaue, speaking of the late unpleasantness un-pleasantness between Judge Hilton and Mr. Seligman, at the Grand Union hotel, Saratoga, made a slip and an admission that it is not often guilty of. The editor forgot that "it's a poor rule that wont work both ways." Read it: Tbe insult, as might have been expected, ex-pected, was resented with spirit, and this drew from Hilton the frank confession con-fession in the public prints that be had given the order and that it was leveled against all "Jews," but mala-droitly mala-droitly distinguishes between "Jews" aud "Hebrews," for reasons best known to himself. Popular surmiae will say that, tbe curious line wa& drawn from the dictates of prudence, fear and necessity, lor no person is strong enough in this country of perfect per-fect treedom ol religion to insult an entire faith or nationality on the strict ground of its apiritual belie! without incurring a crushing weight of popular indignation a popular; indignation, too, that would take in all tbe other civilized countries of the! world as well as our own.
