Tho remaining three boats got undtr way iu good shape, the Mary Askie (Captaiu Silver) and the America (Captain Hudson) getting of! well together to-gether on the fume tack, and the I'etrel (Captnin Barratt) sailing rather closer to the wind. It soon became evident from the superior size of the other boats that the 1 etrel would be dirianced, aud the was. The conflict between the Mary Askie and tbe America was very close during tbe whole course ot five miles and return, ! each boat seeuiiug to realize that $25 was the reward of getting in first. The event showed that the Mary Askie most deeply realized real-ized her reeponaibilities, for afler a nip aud tuck race, she passed the home buoy ten seconds in advance of her adversary.
