Show In near neighborhood with silver mines iu tho hills of tho Salt river valley val-ley in Arizona, a bed of anthracite coal, apparently of largo extent, has jbecn recently discovered. As ex-' ex-' posed, the mass is 120 feet wide and a mile in length. A Bmall shaft seven feet deep has been sunk, and coal taken out which burns freely. Nothing is said of tho geological formation for-mation in which thin coal occurs. Possibly it may bo of a similar de scriplitm, if actually anthracito, to the coal found in a contiguous state ol Mexico, which occurring in tho trias-sic trias-sic formation, is said, by geologists, to havo been converted into anthracite by comparatively recent volcanic action. |
