Show Jacobs City in Ashes. About hall-past 12 o'clock yesterday yester-day morning, fire was discovered in tho rear of Lipman's Btore, Jacobs city, Tooele, and in a short time that enterprising town was laid iu allies. Every house was burned, from Mrs. Mouldiug's to Lusk's store, a large number of stores, saloons and residences. resi-dences. Tho Kirby house was saved. The town was strung along in a narrow nar-row gorge, and there being no supply of water on hand, it fell an easy prey to the element. The loss roust amount to considerable. The fire, we uuderstaud, was purely accidental. acci-dental. Since the above was in type, we have received the following by Wes-ern Wes-ern Union telegraph line : Ophir, 1C About 12:30 last night a fire broke out in the rear of M. H. Lipman's business house at Jacob city, Dry canon and destroyed the whole of tho business portion of the town before the flames could begot under control. The business places destroyed were M. H. Lipman's grocer; Spongier &. Kelley, grocers; Osborne's saloon, D. Reese, saloon; Isaac Quinn, store; Noble's restaurant, Seiig & Simons, grocers; Mrs. Moul-iu's Moul-iu's boarding house; Thompson &. Jergenson. hutcbeis; Pat Gibbons' saloon; Wm. Balesty, saloon, aud other buildings, including the Western Union telegraph office. The total loss is estimated at between $30,000 and J3o,000. No water being in Dry canon, the losses were entire. No insurances, except Lipmau and Selig & Simons. |
