Show Grasshoppers in Nebraska. From tolegraphic reports in eastern Nebraska, along the line o( the Union Pacific road, we laarn that the grasshoppers have not done any great damage, but are still devouring tho corn and vegetables. In the immediate im-mediate vicinity of Grand Island, the iroudaild have injured the crops but slightly; however, north and west ot there they have stripped everytbfng in the shape of vegetation. As yet, little damage has been done in the southern part of the state. The Western Union telegraph manager at Grand Island says : The prospects are not fiatter'mg, as the grasshoppers my come in numbers large enough to completely destroy the corn crop, as it id not entirely out ofAlanger, hut will bo in a week or two. It is estimated esti-mated ttiut frjm 20 to -o per cent, of the corn crop has already been taken. I |
