Show PoHce Court Ed. Dougherty and James Mc-Grath, Mc-Grath, while .drunk ;on Thursday evening, assaulted and battered each other somewhat, for which they were arrested and yesterday morning fined $10 each. The former paid up, but the latter went to jail. Thomas Kiernan, a hardy miner, was taken before Justice Pyper to answer a complaint made against him by his wife, charging him with beating beat-ing and bruising her and threatening to take her life. Tho lady, with other witnesses, testified against her lord and master, and told some pretty hard stories concerning his treatment nf her. The judge fined Kiernan $25, and held him in bonds of $200 to keep tho peace. The delendant failed to give the bonds and was committed com-mitted to jail. John Lawrence is in tho jug, "sobering up," and to-day will be tried for drunkenness and disturbing tho peace. |
