Show Serenading the Governor. Last evening the Fourteenth infantry in-fantry band serenaded Gov. Axtell at the Townsend House, and Gen. Smith, with the officers and ladies of Camp Douglas, made it the occasion of on informal call upon his excel lency. The governor briefly thanked the members of the band, and warmly warm-ly welcomed the military gentlemen and the ladies. Alter the musical serenade in front of the hotel, the band and little company adjourned to the dining room, where they enjoyed en-joyed thomselves for an hour in ft social dance, many guests of the house joining the party. The alUir waa strictly impromptu, and entirely private, the officers of the poatmerelv wishing to pay their reepects to our new executive. |
