Show Republicans Disagreeing. Washington, D. C, 11. The joint caucus of republican senators and representatives held at the Capitol to night, was not largely attended- The report of the joint caucus committee was submitted in the form of a new political bill, the points of which were , telegraphed in these dispatches this morning. Representative Smith of Vs., offered of-fered an amendment, the effect of; which will be to make the bid apply to ail states. He protested against further ftderal interference in the affairs of the soulh. Representatives Dawes, Cobb (Kansas) (Kan-sas) and Williams, (Mich.) agreed in the main with Smith, while Lawrence, Albright and Lynch took the opposite ground, insisting that there was the greatest need of ftderal interference to protect colored men in the exercise of their rights. The caucus was not altogether harmonious, and without action it adjourned till to-morrow night. Several memDrs said they would not attend. |
