An officer arrived at San Francisco from Salt Lake city on Sunday evening, even-ing, armed with a requisition for Emmet Culbcrth, who is charged with issuing a forged check on the Bank of California, to the detriment of one of the proprietors of tho Salt Lake Tribune, who indorsed tho same. Culberth is the young man who recently re-cently passed through this city, provided pro-vided with bogus letters of introduction introduc-tion from distinguished journalists in the east, and who is said to have per petrated a number of swindles on a small scale on his route hither and after he left for San Francisco. Since his arrest a number of frienda have gone to his relief, and as his rascal!-, ties were of an insignificant character, it is poesible that they may Bucceed in extricating the young man from his disgraceful predicament. Culberth hails from Dover, Deleware, and is represented to belong to a very respectable re-spectable family, having several relatives rela-tives of public distinction. Ho appears ap-pears tu have been well educated, and should have been abovo such frauds us ch urged against him. |
