Show CHECKERS. Mr. James Wyllie, of Scotland, the famous checker-player, is in the city, stopping at the Everatt house. Early in life Mr. Wyllie, who is now far advanced in years, evinced decided de-cided genius for the game of checkers. ( and was the wonder of the whole . country in which he lived. As he grew up his skill increased, and today to-day he is undoubtedly the greatest . player in the world. Since his arrival ar-rival in the United States he has played over four hundred games, and has lost only three or four. This is remarkable, considering the ;,fact that only those ot acknowledged skill dare to play with him. Last night he played several games in his room at the Everett house, but did not find anybody that was near a match for him. He will remain in St. Leuis a' few days. St. Louis Gobe. , |
