Show Theatre. There was a large and appreciative audience present at the theatre last evening, who were highly gratified with tho performance. Miss Rogers as Leah gave another evidence of her great histrionic ability, and she played the Jewess in a most natural and effective ef-fective manner. Filled with the instincts, in-stincts, prejudices and traditions of her race, she meets Adelbert, loves him, and by him is loved in return. She is willing to sacrifice everything for that love, and when she finds that her lover ha proven false to her, all tho hate and fury of her nature are aroused and she curses as only a Jew-' Jew-' ess can curse. In this scene Miss power and eflect with which she delivered de-livered the majodiction. Miss Rogers was well supported by the com pany, and the piece went exceedingly smooth. In the farce "Rough Diamond," Miss Rogers played Margery with a great deal of brilliancy and created much laughter and applause. Mr. Graham as Cousin Joe and the other members of the company in the cast gave excellent support. This evening, for her benefit, Miss Rogers presents the clsarming comedy of "An Unequal Match," in which she appears as Heater Grazebrook. This is a part in which she madeauch a decided hit during her first engage-1 engage-1 ment here, and we doubt not that tonight to-night she will appear to even greater advantage than Bhe did then. She will be supportod by Miss Walters and the entire company. After tho comedy Miss Rogers recites the beautiful beau-tiful poem of "Mary, Queen of Scots, from the Cradle to the Grave," illustrated illus-trated by living tableaux, in which the dramatic compauyiwill assist. As Miss Rogers is a great favorite with our citizens, we expect to see a crowded house to-night at her benefit. |
