Show Miner Demonstration. Wilkesbarre, Pa., 17. The fiist open demonstration by miners in jthis section took place to-day. Early 1 this aiternoon a procession of 1,000 men from Sugar Notch, Warren Run and Navtickoe, marched through th city. Their approach bad not been heralded. Tiny were a motloy and rough looking crowd. Their officers were mounted, and the commander com-mander was dressed in uniform worn by the militia of the suite. They had a drum corps, two brass bands, and carried the strs ftid tripes, and a number of banners. i'oliowing were some of the mottoes: "If union is strength Sugar Notch is a Sampson;" Samp-son;" "Our cauae is just and we will win;" " While we've a crust we'll not give in;" "Traitors should be branded with the mark of Cain;" "Bribers and betrayers be-trayers are useless." "Our union is noble and strong." "No surrender till hell freezes over, and then will crawl out under the ice." f Two men carried a minature ecaf fold with sn o.'ligy in miner's garb bearing "A model betrayer and j blackguard." One banner had I the representation of a man being ! shot Irom behind, and above were the , words, "A traitor's doom." The! procession was not halted here and no riotous conduct was manifested.! Tne demonstration was for intimiiat-! iog such as are tired of the strike and ' want to go to work. |
