Show A RECLAIMED FARM. "'No Excellence Without Labor " Exompliiied. Salt Lake City March 1, 1875. Editors Herald: Having tired somewhat of tho closeness, monotony and gases particularly par-ticularly the gases of tho print Bhop, I we determined upon an out last week, and settled upon Sunday as the day. But fixing in one's mind upon doing a certain thing and carrying it eut are two different things, as wo found when tho time for starting was brought around by Mr. Time. Six o'clock ! The locomotive starts on time, and sluggards who fail to reach tho depot soon enough are gently reminded re-minded by the whistle, which toots , its.oo-oo in a B sharp key for their especial benefit. Rather early for a fellow that's been working all night. Aint it? Where did we go, for two others of the Herald staff accompanied us? Only as far as Wood's cross, to uncle " Wully " Muir's place; but that was far enough, and answered all the purposes for which we sallied forth, viz: for fresh air. We endeavored en-deavored to take a cat-nap in our seat on the car, but just as our eyelids eye-lids were beginning to stick some fellow yelled out "Wood's cross I" " Well, wjio cares whether he's cross or not," we remarked, and were about to resume our acquaintance with Mr. Morpheus, when a gentlemanly gentle-manly individual intimated that that was the jumping off place, and we jumped. At the residence of Mr. M. we were very hospitably entertained, and in tho course of the day, taken around and shown the farm. Of course, it's rather early in theyear to see the growing grow-ing things, but what we saw we'd like to tell your readers of. We saw a large thriving family, in substantial houses, with the necessary out-buildings and yards, living in fine style upon the results of hard labor, and when we say "hard" labor, we don't mean a "soft thing." The farm is a reclaimed one reclaimed, by constant con-stant and well-applied labor, from a waste Whon the present occupant . first settled there, that land was considered con-sidered untillable, but now is among the best in the country. It was once a miry swamp, full cf spring holes 1 andmud-puddles, but now, by a systematic sys-tematic drainage, that has been car- 1 ried out to a scienco.it is a solid, 1 firm, dry, rich farm. Drains run through it all over at respectful distances, dis-tances, and a large amount of muscular mus-cular capital must have been expended expend-ed on it yearly. It brought forcibly to our remembrance tho motto: "No excellence without labor." Mr. M. ia beginning to reap the benefits of hiB invested labor, in seeing springing up around him a comfortable home, stocked with a healthy-looking family, fami-ly, happy and contented. We make mention of this farm because we saw it and the fruits of part of the labor put on it; but it is only ajac simile of numbers of farms tilled in Utah, and the energy, perseverance perse-verance and toil of the hardy husbandmen hus-bandmen are scarcely over taken into consideration by any of the city "bugs." Not enough, anyhow. For our part, we'd like to be a farmer, but afraid we never can, being deficient defi-cient in the necessary capital muscle. Good evening. Yours, truly, J. E. E. Pimples, Eruptions, Rough Slln. The system being put under the influence in-fluence of Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Medi-cal Discovery for a few weeks, the skin becomes smooth, clear, soft and velvety, and being illuminated with the glow of perfect health from within, with-in, true beauty stands forth in all its glory. The effects of all medicines which operate upon the system through the medium oi the blood are necessarily somewhat slow, no matter1 how good the remedy employed. While ono to three bottles clear the skin of pimpleej blotches, eruptions, yellow spots, comedones, or "grubs." a dozen may possibly be required to cure some cases where tho system is rotten with scrofulous or virulent blood poisons. Tho cure of all these diseases, however, from the common pimple to the worst scrofula is, with 1 the use uf this most potent agent, only a matter of time. Sold by dealers deal-ers in medicines. COVERED WITH ERUPTIONS, CURED. Claverack, Columbia Co., N. Y. " Dr. R. V. Pierce, Buflalo, N. Y., Dear Sir: I am 60 years of age.and have been afflicted with Salt Rheum in the worst form for a great many years, until, accidentally, I saw one of your books, which described my case exactly. ex-actly. I bought your Golden Medical Discovery and took two bottles and a half, and was entirely cured. From my shoulders to my hands I was entirely en-tirely covered with eruptions, alBO on face and body. I was likewise afflicted with rheumatism, so that I walked with great difficulty, and that is entirely cured. May God spare you a long life to remain a blessing to mankind. With untold gratitude. Mrs. A. W. Williams. |
